Mother's Day from China

Today was Mother's Day in China.  How fun to celebrate the moms at the same time celebrate Fei having a mom....

We started our day by attending a Christian church in China...believe it or not, we could worship with ~200 other people in this church to start out our Mother's Day.  Fascinating and fun to attempt to sing and keep the beat in Chinese.  The service was partially translated into English and the rest was in Mandarin.

Shamian Christian Chapel in Guangzhou

Pastor praying for Fei.
What a special time as there were 3 adopting families in the service and the pastor prayed for the kids and our families.

After services, it was off to explore St. Clair style...the grandparents had a funny look on their faces as we headed west off Shamian Island into a mass of trucks, coolers, and funny smells. This was a wholesale fish and creature market where the restaurant buyers could buy fresh (alive) fish and sea creatures.

"I had to step in fish guts at the fish market" - TJ.  FYI this is a crocodile head that was just wiggling.

Watched them skin and scale one of these snakes for a customer.

Eels anyone...imagine them slithering by your feet when they get out of the tub.

"One of the workers asked me if I wanted to hold one of these." -TJ

If it wiggles you can buy it here...many of these creatures we had never seen before.

Coming back from Shamian Island on the subway.

Family enjoying a meal together...

Happy Mother's Day from China!

  1. D and B would have been right up there with TJ, faces pressed against the glass holding the octopus and probably debating who had stepped on more guts. :) Your updates continue to tell the story of these long awaited moments, and how amazing is God's timing... perhaps, some delays were so you'd be at a certain factory on 5-10 and a special Mother's Day weekend. WOW! In case anyone is wondering, Aspen has made a smooth transition to her 2nd home away from home. Godiva now misses her! The boys enjoyed the "see" food picture. We also have a joke for them... why are Rhinos so wrinkly? B/c they are hard to iron.
