The significance of 5-10

Oh, how time stops when you are in a significant moment in your life.  Our family trip to Fei's orphanage turned out to be a story greater than we could have expected.  The day unfolded in only the way an awesome God could write....

We will have to add additional posts as we remember details, but here it goes for the day...

2.5 hour van ride to Shenzhen and the Longgang District where Fei is from...fascinating to drive through area and explore.
Arrived at Fei's orphanage.  Fei and Dad stayed in the van while everyone else headed in. Dad & Fei were off to their own adventure with the Chinese speaking driver to a Chinese Walmart and walking mall.

The orphanage was in a run down part of town, but was well kept and currently has 120 kids, it can hold up to 400 and is considered a small orphanage in Chinese standards.  This is the play area in the courtyard.

We felt as though the Lord was guiding the entire visit (all of the below are not always granted or known):
  • The officials at the orphanage let the group read the police report and we were allowed to videotape our interpreter translating the document.
  • They handed us her admissions picture and said we could keep it.
  • We were able to take pictures and video throughout the visit
  • They gave us the birth mother's name that was on her hospital bracelet, attached to her wrist when she was found, which also gave her exact birthdate & measurements...they believe it was a fake name, however, as the case was investigated when she was found.

TJ checking out her admission photo from 2011.

Fei's room.  Her crib is the one against the wall where the little boy in yellow is sleeping.

Overall we were very impressed with the care model in the orphanage and couldn't have asked for a more open and welcoming staff; always a great sign.  FYI - this orphanage is new to our agency (Holt Intl.) and Fei is one of their first placements.

If that wasn't enough, God had another great gift for us...the agency was able to give us the location and date of where she was left.  They also drew us a map on how to get to the location...Our God is amazing and has been out in front of every step of this adoption!
We serve a God who answers prayers and provides details around our needs.

After a 20 - 30 min drive and stopping to ask directions a couple times...we found where she was left.  Here are the details:

She was left wrapped in a black adult shirt 30 meters from the entrance to the factory (the brick posts behind us) on May 10, 2011 exactly two years to the date (May 10, 2013)....we were standing in the same spot when we put that all together...tears and goose bumps.
She was left along a walking path along a small river off the road.

  2. Your words and pictures are just so...powerful. Can't even begin to express what we (I) feel as we share in your journey. We think about Fei and the gifts of her past that you will be able to share with her as she grows up. We think about Ell, TJ and Owe-Dog as they are helping their little sister through this confusing and wonderful time. We think about the grandparents as they share in this time of family bonding. We think about you, Kirst and Chris, and can't imagine the emotions, the joy, the fear, the, the, the...

We love you, we love you, we love you! Thank you for continuing to find the time to document and share this awesome journey that only God could have planned.

Tears once again. xoxo Wendy (and family!)
